The Louis Vuitton Coussin is the maison's softest modern proposition — a puffy, pillowy shoulder bag introduced by Nicolas Ghesquière in 2021, finished in oversized quilted Monogram-embossed lambskin and named for the French word for "cushion." Worn with a chunky gold-toned chain and a deliberately relaxed silhouette, the Coussin is Louis Vuitton reimagined for an era that wears its luxury softly. To care for one is to preserve a bag whose entire identity is its plush, sculpted softness.
The Coussin's defining feature — its quilted, pillow-like body — is also its central vulnerability. Each oversized diamond is filled with padding that gives the bag its signature, almost squeezable feel. When the bag is stored empty for any length of time, that padding compresses unevenly, particularly along the bottom and along the front where the closure rests. Over time, this leaves the quilting flat in places it should be plump. The embossed lambskin used for the Coussin is one of the softest leathers in the Louis Vuitton lineup, which means it is exquisitely vulnerable to scratching, scuffing, and color transfer. Between wears, a dry microfiber cloth lifts dust without disturbing the surface; water and conditioners can leave permanent marks on the lambskin and disturb the embossed monogram. Contact with dark denim should be especially avoided on lighter Coussins, as the soft leather absorbs dye quickly.
The Coussin's hardware — the chain, the gold-toned plaque, and the closure — should be wiped only with a dry microfiber cloth. Chemical polishes strip the finish permanently, and the lambskin around the hardware is too soft to tolerate any abrasive cleaner.
Storage protects the bag's plush form. A breathable satin dust bag, fully enclosing the Coussin, shields the lambskin and the chain from dust, humidity, and UV fade while letting the leather breathe. The bag should be stored upright or laid gently, never stacked beneath heavier pieces that would compress the quilting, and never sealed in plastic.
The Coussin is Louis Vuitton's quietest argument that luxury can be soft without being shapeless — a bag whose softness is precisely engineered to last.
