The heart of this Italian maison is simplicity. Bottega Veneta dedicates itself to leather artisanship, and the house’s signature weave—Intrecciato, meaning ‘braided’ or ‘intertwined’ in Italian—is the most notable example of this. The resulting basket weave, made by hand from strips of leather, has become a marker of Bottega Veneta since 1975. Visible logos are forgone, allowing the craftsmanship of supple leather to speak for itself in goods from wallets to duffels and backpacks.
One of Bottega Veneta’s most well-known creations also plays on this signature weave. The Cassette flap bag features a contemporary iteration of the Intrecciato. Designed by Daniel Lee, the Cassette’s pattern is exaggerated, inflated, with bigger pieces of leather that give it a more modern feel. It is still distinguishably Bottega Veneta, but the Cassette extends the house’s appeal to the present day.

Since its release in 2019, the Cassette bag has made a name for itself as a Bottega Veneta classic. With its simultaneous refreshed feel and maintenance of original DNA, the flap bag is a hit with celebrities from Salma Hayek to Jacob Elordi. The simple rectangular shape and elegant pattern combine into a unisex bag that is suited for everyday wear—not so eye-catching that it would look out of place with casual clothing but perfectly apt for dressing up.
Bottega Veneta’s Cassette currently comes in only one size, a modest medium at 5.9" (15 cm) by 9.1" (23 cm) by 2" (5 cm). With the strap, it is a charming accessory that sits on the body perfectly. Tuck in the strap, and you have an equally gorgeous clutch with its striking weave. The inside features an interior pocket, aligned with the maison’s dedication to luxury in simplicity.
The sleek calfskin leather, emphasized by the large basket pattern, makes the Cassette a difficult bag to forget. As a modern twist on Bottega Veneta’s recognizable leather weave, the Cassette has been an undeniably successful case of combining innovation and tradition.
